OFFICIAL ELECTION NOTICE
Pursuant to Article 10 of the
SEIU Local 535 constitution, notice is hereby given for the 2003 statewide
election of officers. The following offices are open for nomination:
president, first vice president, three regional vice presidents
(northern, central, and southern), three division vice presidents (public
sector, private sector/non-profit, and health care), treasurer, and secretary.
Candidates for regional vice president must work in the region s/he
represents (e.g., the central vice president must belong to one of the
following chapters: Alta Regional Center, Catholic Cemeteries, Central
California Legal Assistance, Fresno Area Substitute Teachers, Fresno County
(all chapters), Fresno Housing Authority, Fresno Unified School District,
Golden Valley Health Centers, Kern Regional Center, Laidlaw Transit, Madera
County, Mariposa County, Monterey County, Planned Parenthood of Sacramento,
Riverdale School District, River Oak Children’s Center, Sacramento
County, Stanislaus County, Tulare County, Valley Mountain Regional Center,
and Yosemite). Candidates for division vice president must be employed
in the division represented by the vice president. The above officers
serve two-year terms. Candidates may only run for and serve in one
office. The election ballot may also include referenda, initiatives,
or constitutional amendments approved by the state executive board.
ELIGIBILITY: Nominees for statewide office
must have been members in continuous good standing of the union for at
least two years immediately preceding the nomination. If a candidate
for office is a member of a chapter which has been affiliated with Local
535 for fewer than two years, the nominee shall be eligible if s/he has
been a member in continuous good standing for at least one-half the length
of time the chapter has been in existence.
NOMINATIONS: Nomination shall be made by means of a petition signed by no fewer than 25 members in good standing. Petitions are available in each Local 535 office. Completed petitions must be submitted to the Election Committee (c/o SEIU Local 535, 661 27th Street, Oakland, CA 94612) by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2003. Candidates may submit a statement (of 150 words or less) and photograph by that date for inclusion in the statewide ballot mailing. All election materials must be submitted via certified, return-receipt-requested mail or delivery. Election ballots will be mailed to the general membership on Friday, October 24, 2003 and must be returned by 5:00 p.m. on November 24, 2003. Ballots will be counted on December 6, 2003. New statewide officers will be installed at the first state executive board meeting of 2004. |
